Bailey Named Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs

Dear Colleagues:
Dr. David N. Bailey, interim vice chancellor for health sciences and interim dean of the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, has been named vice chancellor for health affairs at the University of California, Irvine, effective April 1, 2007.
He will oversee the full spectrum of our health sciences activities, which includes UC Irvine Medical Center, UC Irvine University Physicians and Surgeons and the College of Health Sciences. He also will serve as dean of the School of Medicine.
A committee chaired by Alan Barbour, M.D., a professor in the School of Medicine, conducted an extensive national search for this position, which netted dozens of outstanding candidates. David Bailey’s qualifications were second to none; we are very pleased with his appointment.
