Chancellor presents inaugural Living Our Values Awards

Establishing a new UC Irvine tradition, Chancellor Michael V. Drake presented the campus’s first Living Our Values Awards to members of the UCI employee community whose actions best embody the university’s values of respect, intellectual curiosity, integrity, commitment, empathy, appreciation and fun. In a private ceremony held in his office June 1, Drake gave honorees a crystal plaque and $1,000 to donate to a UC or UCI program, or registered charity. Receiving individual awards were:

Darlene Bradley, emergency/trauma services director, UC Irvine Medical Center. Charity: Spiritual Care Ministry Program, UC Irvine Medical Center.
Linda Truong Le, management services officer, Department of Spanish & Portuguese. Charity: Chicano/Latino Literary Prize.
Alberto Roca, assistant project scientist, Department of Molecular Biology & Biochemistry. Charity: Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science.

A facilities management team that includes William Mitchell, Brian Grochow, Corey Turpin, Rhonda Espinosa, Scott Pribyl, Kevin Brown, Roger Beaty, Hipolito Barrera and Michael Guerra received the team award. The group was honored for donating their free time and trade skills to Project Playhouse, a benefit for HomeAid Orange County’s shelter-development program. Their donation will go to UC Irvine Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
