Campus, Community Stand Together for Tolerance
Chancellor Michael Drake joined hundreds of students, faculty and staff members, and visitors from the local community in Aldrich Park May 30 to affirm the campus’s tolerance of diverse spiritual and religious practices and to show respect for the right of free expression.
At the UC Irvine Academic Senate-sponsored demonstration, “Stand Together for Tolerance,” chair Martha Mecartney invited all attendees to form a human chain around Aldrich Park to affirm to the campus and community that people of different religions and spiritual practices are safe on campus and welcome to practice their religions. The event culminated with the release of 20 white doves.
