Chancellor Drake Welcomes New Nursing Director to UC Irvine
Chancellor Michael Drake and about 180 campus and community guests celebrated the arrival of Ellen Olshansky as the new director of UC Irvine’s Nursing Science Program on Sept. 12.
Olshansky, who has more than 30 years experience in nursing as an administrator, researcher and practitioner, will lead the nursing program as it educates students in a field vital to California’s health and prosperity.
“Our state faces a critical shortage of nurses,” said Drake. “As the only entry-level baccalaureate nursing program in Orange County, we will provide highly qualified nurses dedicated to the science of caring for people.”
Leaders from Orange County hospitals and several elected officials also were in attendance. Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez spoke about legislation she has introduced to help nurses pay for their education.
