Law School Naming
August 13, 2007
Dear Colleagues:
Today, UC Irvine announced a $20 million gift from business leader and philanthropist Donald Bren in support of our recently established law school. Mr. Bren’s gift provides tremendous momentum to the law school, laying a foundation for academic and research excellence that will produce 21st-century leaders in law, government and business. In honor of his remarkable support, the school will be named the Donald Bren School of Law.
A longstanding friend and supporter of the campus, Mr. Bren has established an endowment that supports 37 distinguished faculty chairs in the arts, sciences and now law, and has made gifts that led to the naming of the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences, the Claire Trevor School of the Arts and the Bren Events Center. We are extraordinarily grateful for his continued involvement and support.
The law school gift will endow 11 faculty chairs and a chair for the dean, the search for whom is well under way. The Donald Bren School of Law is expected to open its doors to the first class of law students in fall 2009.
