Regents Approve UCI Law School
Nov. 16, 2006
Dear Colleagues:
Today the University of California Board of Regents approved our proposal to establish a school of law at UC Irvine, bringing
to fruition an aspect of the campus's vision that dates back to its founding in 1965.
Our selection as home to the next public law school in California is an unparalleled honor. The UCI School of Law will be the
first public law school to open in California in more than 40 years, and it will become just the second public law school to
serve Southern California’s diverse and growing population. With the campus’s reputation for building outstanding programs
and the incredible level of local support for this initiative, I have complete confidence that the School of Law will become
one more compelling example of excellence at UCI.
A national search for a dean of the School of Law will begin immediately, and we expect to enroll our first class of students
in fall 2009. I want to especially thank those of you who have played a role in making this dream a reality, and I invite the
rest of you to join me in supporting this initiative as we move forward.
