INITIATIVES
The 410,000-square-foot, seven-story facility being constructed at the UC Irvine Medical Center campus in Orange will accommodate advanced health care technology and strengthen UCI’s ability to provide specialized medical and surgical treatments. It will be a state-of-the-art facility for conducting the latest medical research, as well as training future and practicing physicians in Southern California.
UCI’s proposal to establish a school of law was approved by the Regents of the University of California in November 2006. The UC Irvine School of Law is the first public law school in California in more than 40 years and only the second to exist in Southern California. Fulfilling a longstanding vision of the campus, the school is expected to open its doors to its first class of law students in fall 2009.
To preserve and strengthen the contributions of UCI’s staff, the campus established the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Staff in 2002. CACSS is charged with advocating for staff, promoting career development opportunities, mitigating problems and creating a positive work environment.
Bringing to campus renowned scholars and other individuals from around the globe whose disciplines range from the arts and literature to science and current events, the annual Chancellor’s Distinguished Fellows Series reflects the core values of the University of California, Irvine.
