Dean, School of Humanities
Dec. 21, 2007
Dear Colleagues:
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Vicki L. Ruiz as dean of the School of Humanities effective Jan. 1, 2008, and pending regental approval. Professor Ruiz emerged as the top choice after an extensive national search. We look forward with great anticipation to her continued and excellent leadership in the school.
A fellow of the Society of American Historians, Ruiz is a distinguished scholar who has achieved national recognition and received numerous awards in her field of 20th century U.S. history with a focus on Latinos and gender. She also has served as department chair at three institutions including UCI, and as president of the American Studies Association and the Organization of American Historians, two of the most prestigious academic associations in the country. With this extensive scholarly and administrative background, Ruiz is uniquely suited to provide leadership to our outstanding School of Humanities and lead it to future acclaim.
We also wish to extend our appreciation to search committee chairs Richard Regosin and Sharon Salinger and the committee members for their efforts on our behalf.
Welcome, Dean Ruiz!
