Appointment of Health Sciences Ombudsperson
Oct. 13, 2006
We are pleased to announce that Gecole Harley, an attorney with extensive experience as a mediator and organizational problem-solver, has been appointed ombudsperson for the University of California, Irvine health sciences.
In that capacity, she provides confidential, impartial and informal dispute resolution assistance to employees – including faculty, staff, health care professionals, residents, medical students and volunteers – at the School of Medicine, UC Irvine Medical Center, Gottschalk Medical Plaza and our community clinics. She reports to the chancellor’s office.
Ms. Harley’s outstanding communication skills and her ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels and from diverse cultures uniquely qualify her for this new position, which was established upon the recommendation of the blue ribbon committee formed last year to review medical center issues and make recommendations for improvements.
Prior to UCI, she was an attorney with Bell James and Bentley in Augusta, Ga., a human resources representative with John Deere Commercial Products in Grovetown, Ga., and a counseling intern at the University of South Carolina’s Counseling and Human Development Center. She received a master’s in social work from the University of South Carolina, her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and her bachelor’s from Swarthmore College.
Ms. Harley can be reached at 714-456-5605.
Please join us in welcoming her to the University of California, Irvine.
