Budget Update
We wish to thank all of you who have submitted comments regarding the three furlough/salary reduction proposals, and continue to encourage all members of the campus community to share their thoughts and ideas about how best to cope with the budget challenges we are experiencing. (6.30.2009)

Budget Update
As you know, the University of California has received very substantial reductions to its state budget for next year. Along with mandatory cost increases, we now estimate that UC Irvine will need to absorb reductions of about $70 million – an unprecedented situation for our campus. (6.18.2009)

Staff Service Awards
One of UC Irvine’s campus traditions is recognizing long-term staff members at the annual service awards ceremony. Please join us June 17 in congratulating your colleagues who have achieved milestones of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service. (6.8.2009)

Campus Incident Update
On Wednesday, May 20, UC Irvine police received a report of a man on campus carrying what appeared to be a rifle. Fortunately, a subsequent investigation revealed that it was an airsoft-type imitation weapon and the incident was safely resolved. (5.22.2009)

Gift Names UC Irvine Douglas Hospital
I am pleased to announce that our new hospital at UC Irvine Medical Center has been named UC Irvine Douglas Hospital after M.A. Douglas of Orange, Calif., in honor of his $21 million posthumous gift. (5.6.2009)

New Programs Address Budget Challenges
While the budget crisis is highly complex, and its specific impacts on UC Irvine still uncertain, we have developed several programs designed to reduce administrative expenses and mitigate the need for layoffs, which is a top priority. (4.28.2009)
