Chancellor Drake Presents Sustainability Awards at Climate Change Event

Chancellor Michael Drake presented the Sustainability Showcase Awards Jan. 31 at Focus the Nation, a nationwide teach-in involving events at more than 1,000 U.S. universities on the importance of confronting global warming.

The awards went to four campus sustainability projects chosen by event attendees for their potential to have the greatest positive impact on the environment. Winners included Facilities Management for lighting retrofits, the Department of Earth System Science for work on climate change, Dick Sun with Environmental Health & Safety for testing the campus's biofuel bus fleet and the UCI student group Green Campus, for promoting energy efficiency.

Chancellor Drake presents the Sustainable Student Initiatives award to Green Campus members Samantha Kao, Kong Sham, Courtney Gill and Alyssa Penacho.
