Chancellor, alumni leaders break ground on new alumni center

Chancellor Michael Drake and alumni leaders broke ground at the site of the future UCI Alumni Association building on Friday, Nov. 18. Situated at the corner of Mesa Road and University Drive, the new center will be significantly larger than its predecessor and designed to meet the needs of an alumni population that is 132,000 strong – and growing by 8,000 annually. The Newkirk Alumni Center will be named in honor of a generous gift from alumna Martha Newkirk, Ph.D. ’81 and her husband, Jim.
