Global Warming Conference Encourages Local Action
Chancellor Michael Drake welcomed more than 300 campus and community guests to the Cities and Global Climate Change conference hosted by UC Irvine’s Newkirk Center for Science and Society on April 27. The event brought together distinguished scientists and elected officials to discuss global warming and find solutions.
UCI Nobel Laureate F. Sherwood Rowland’s keynote address focused on the dangers of ozone depletion and the levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Other experts discussed alternative fuels and the cultural and political ramifications of climate change. Mayors and other city officials from Irvine, Boulder, Aspen and Salt Lake City discussed implementing global warming science in their communities.
