Chancellor Drake Lectures on Diversity in Medicine

Chancellor Michael Drake delivered a lecture Jan. 30 as part of the Diversity in Medicine lecture series, a one-unit course that seeks to address the cultural disparities many patients and populations face in receiving adequate healthcare.

Chancellor Drake discussed his role in the founding of UCI’s PRIME-LC program, which trains medical students to address the specific medical needs of Latinos; and highlighted the disparities in healthcare due to race and income level, both locally and globally.

“What we want to do is put good doctors out to take care of you,” Drake said to an audience of more than 150 undergraduates, medical students and university community members. “I think getting good care is the thing that matters in the end.”

The course is offered every winter term by the Office of Equal Opportunity & Diversity and the schools of Medicine and Biological Sciences.
