Former President, Nobel Laureate Jimmy Carter Speaks at UC Irvine

On May 3, Chancellor Michael Drake and 3,400 students, faculty, staff and alumni attended a lecture by former President Jimmy Carter at the Bren Events Center. Carter discussed his new book, Palestine Peace Not Apartheid, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict more broadly.

“Long-term prospects for peace in the Middle East are not discouraging,” said Carter, who also answered student-submitted questions after the lecture.

The event was sponsored by the Center for the Study of Democracy, the Model United Nations Program, the Department of Political Science and the Center for Citizen Peacebuilding. Carter was presented with the UCI Citizen Peacebuilding Award before the lecture.
