Chancellor’s Club Fall Kick-Off Focuses on Gavin Herbert Eye Institute

On Sept. 23, Chancellor Michael Drake attended the Chancellor’s Club annual Fall Kick-Off event in collaboration with the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute. The chancellor shared highlights from the previous year and introduced members to the pioneering work happening in the Department of Ophthalmology and developments in building the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute on campus. At the event to share the exciting work were Gavin Herbert, chairman emeritus of Allergan, and the institute’s director, Dr. Roger Steinert.

The Chancellor’s Club is one of UCI’s oldest and largest support groups. Member contributions help fund scholarships, fellowships, faculty research, upgraded equipment, library materials, and other critical areas that help to make UCI one of the top research universities in the nation. Herbert served as president of the club.

The event, held at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach, was generously underwritten by Chancellor’s Club member and UC Irvine Foundation Board of Trustees chair, Jim Mazzo, CEO of Advanced Medical Optics.
