Chancellor Drake Launches New UC Irvine School of Law
Chancellor Michael Drake, Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost Michael Gottfredson and Dean Erwin Chemerinsky launched UC Irvine’s School of Law by welcoming its inaugural class of 61 students to an Aug. 19 orientation at the University Club. About 200 students, faculty, mentors, attorneys and law school cabinet members attended the event.
UCI’s School of Law received more than 2,700 applications, from which 110 accepted, and 61 have enrolled. These students are extremely talented and impressive in many ways. Their median LSAT of 167 and median GPA of 3.61 put them solidly in the top 20 in the country among law school entering classes. Throughout their three years in law school, the students each will be paired with two active members of the bar association who will mentor them on the intricacies of practicing law.
