Chancellor Drake Presides over 2009 Graduate Student Commencement
Chancellor Michael Drake joined 3,000 faculty and staff members, graduate students, and their friends and families June 6 at Bren Events Center for the 2009 Graduate Student Commencement.
Chancellor Drake welcomed guests; conferred more than 1,550 master’s and doctoral degrees; and introduced the keynote speaker, UC Regent Sherry Lansing. The ceremony also featured a procession of faculty and students in regalia; the national anthem sung by Lorraine Joy Welling, who received her M.F.A. in music from the Claire Trevor School of the Arts; and a student speaker, Cathy Overstreet, doctoral candidate in the School of Biological Sciences.
