Advances in Cancer Research, Care Recognized by Chancellor Drake
Chancellor Michael Drake welcomed renowned cancer researcher Dr. Raymond DuBois, provost and executive vice president of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, to campus Feb. 19. After speaking at the 11th annual Allen and Lee-Hwa Chao Lectureship in Cancer Research, DuBois dined with the chancellor, the Chao family and community members committed to shaping the future of cancer research.
In his remarks, the chancellor described his vision to expand further cancer research at UC Irvine, including opening Orange County’s only dedicated cancer inpatient unit at the new University Hospital later this year. UCI also is working with area philanthropists in support of a $110 million campaign for cancer research and care. The Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of only 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the nation.
