Campus Hosts ‘State of the City’ Address

The annual “State of the City” address by Irvine Mayor Beth Krom took place Nov. 21 in the UCI Student Center’s Pacific Ballroom.

In his introductory remarks, Chancellor Michael Drake described the unique 40-year relationship between the City of Irvine and UCI. He noted how they have grown up side-by-side respectful of the challenges that come with rapid growth and changing demographics.

Usually given at City Hall, this was the first “State of the City” address that the mayor delivered to the campus community. Now termed out, Krom is returning to a seat on the City Council. The “State of the City” served as her farewell address, highlighting many accomplishments over her two terms. Both the mayor and chancellor discussed the strong “town and gown” partnership and possibilities for future endeavors.
