Chancellor Drake Honors Winners of Nationally Prestigious Scholarships

Chancellor Michael Drake attended a luncheon May 29 honoring UC Irvine students who received or were finalists for several nationally prestigious awards in 2008, including a record six Fulbright Fellows, six National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellows, a Jacob K. Javits Fellow and a Donald A. Strauss Scholar.

Drake lunched with the 40 students, faculty and staff members in attendance, and presented certificates of achievement to scholars. The event was hosted by the Scholarship Opportunities Program, which provides advice and assistance to scholars during the application process for awards. Since the program was founded 17 years ago, more than 250 UCI students have received nationally prestigious awards.
