Chancellor Drake Attends Barbecue for UC Irvine Seniors

Chancellor Michael Drake joined Vice Chancellors Thomas Mitchell and Manuel Gomez to show support and mingle with seniors at the 2008 Senior Barbecue April 24 at Phineas Banning Alumni House. Sponsored by the UCI Alumni Association for the sixth year, the barbecue was open to all graduating seniors and an opportunity for them to celebrate their UCI experience together. The first 200 seniors to arrive received a commemorative coffee mug, and all 800 attendees were treated to free food and prize drawings.

The annual barbecue also serves to help seniors transition from students to alumni. It caps the association’s yearlong effort to enrich the senior experience, beginning each fall when selected alumni open their homes for dinners with seniors.
