Chancellor Drake Welcomes Former Speaker Willie Brown to UC Irvine
Chancellor Drake introduced former Assembly Speaker and San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown April 21 at the 4th annual Daniel G. Aldrich Society Lecture and Dinner hosted by the Chancellor’s Club.
Speaking to an audience of about 125 club members, Brown talked about the differences from past elections that he has observed in this year’s presidential race. He believes that as a result of their strategized use of Web technologies to campaign and communicate with voters, candidates have created a sea change in the U.S. electoral process. He also discussed gendered and racial aspects of the campaign that he feels have been downplayed during this election cycle.
The Chancellor’s Club was founded in 1972 and provides funds for scholarships, fellowships and other university priorities.
