Chancellor Drake Promotes Graduate Diversity

Chancellor Michael Drake welcomed more than 1,200 Southern Californian undergraduate students to UC Irvine April 5 for the 18th annual California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education, which aims to increase the number of underrepresented minorities (African Americans, Chicano/Latinos and American Indians), women and other underserved groups in graduate school.

Chancellor Drake talked about the value of diversity, encouraged participants to continue their education and emphasized the importance of attaining an advanced degree, both for their career prospects and the future health of California’s communities. Offering workshops and more than 200 recruiter tables from public and private universities nationwide, the forum provided information on graduate programs in a wide range of fields, from science and engineering, to humanities and the arts. The forum is held twice yearly, during fall in Northern California and spring in Southern California.
