Chancellor Drake Honors Sage Scholars Program
Chancellor Michael Drake recognized scholarship recipients and thanked business and nonprofit leaders on April 3 at an annual banquet honoring UC Irvine’s SAGE (Student Achievement Guided by Experience) Scholars Program. The program is a partnership between UC Irvine and the business/nonprofit community that provides talented students from low-income families with paid internships and scholarships.
Addressing an audience of more than 100 corporate sponsors, university guests, and current and alumni SAGE Scholars, Chancellor Drake emphasized the importance of the program in creating the next generation of innovators and leaders in California’s economy. In addition to financial support, the SAGE Scholars receive hands-on work experience at participating corporations and guidance from company mentors that helps them thrive in future careers. Many SAGE alumni attend top graduate schools or are hired by their corporate sponsors.
