Chancellor Drake Presents Award to Oscar Winner Patty Duke
Chancellor Michael Drake introduced Patty Duke, Academy Award-winning actress, at the 11th annual Brain Imaging Center Silver Ribbon Dinner March 7 and presented her with the Silver Ribbon Award for promoting awareness of bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses.
Duke’s keynote address before an audience of more than 250 community guests focused on her experiences as a mental-health activist and the importance of research conducted at UCI’s Brain Imaging Center. The goal of the event was to foster awareness of a wide range of mental illnesses; highlight treatments and diagnostic techniques offered by the center; and build connections with the local community. Peggy Goldwater Clay and Lana Chandler, Silver Ribbon Dinner co-chairs and community advocates, organized the event, which raised $55,000 for brain research.
