Peter’s Parade Kicks off 2008 Homecoming Festivities
Chancellor Michael Drake served as a judge for UCI’s inaugural Peter’s Parade Feb. 25 at the Student Center. With mascot Peter the Anteater serving as grand marshal, the parade kicked off this year’s Homecoming celebration. The theme of the event was “Eater Nation,” and 16 student organizations decorated golf carts reflecting school spirit. Students from the MatSci (Materials Science) club won first place in the float-decoration competition among non-Greek organizations, and Alpha Phi won first place in the Greek category with their “Alpha Phi-Natics” float.
During his remarks, Drake spoke about student life and the accomplishments of UCI’s sports teams, and also encouraged students to get involved with campus organizations. Peter’s Parade was sponsored by the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and the Associated Students of UCI.
Homecoming culminates Saturday, March 1, at the Bren Events Center, where the UCI Alumni Association will sponsor a pre-game festival, and UCI men’s basketball team will play Cal State Northridge at 8:30 p.m.
